Opunake Beach Holiday Park

We booked in around November for two sites over the christmas break. Paid $100 deposit per site, told leasee that we were unsure of the days we would be staying as my mother is unwel
e recieved a piece of paper showing all the rules, we werent asked to sign anything or given a receipt of deposit
e had tentatively booked christmas eve through to the 28th.
Closer to christmas eve we informed them that we would not be coming down until christmas day and was told that we would only have to pay the minimum site fee of $18 per site. On christmas eve we received a phone call from the leasee , asking us why we had not arrived, we told him we will come down on christmas day and was then told we could not arrive until 1.30pm that day. so we then had to change our plans for christmas day. My mother then had to travel further than she needed unnecessarily. My husband paid the remainder on arrival and it wasnt until later during our three night stay that we realised that we had been charged for the night of christmas eve. When there is a charge of $18 per adult ( we had 7 adults and 1 child ) the amount builds up. We agree we should have been charged a site fee but to charge us for the full amount and then to not let us arrive until half the day is over is unjust. The leasee would not let us have some of our money back. On the piece of paper we received stated that if you depart early you will be charged but not if you arrive later than booked. I see that it is stated on the web site, so i suggest someone updates the paper you receive upon booking and arriving and that this is then signed as an understanding of all the rules etc. This is a lovely beach, My family have been coming to Opunake beach for many years and I wanted to show my children what a lovely spot this is. Its just a shame that the leasees spoiled what was a lovely time we had.

Great location with excellent facilites. Have taken the family here for the last three christmas holidays, have booked again for this year. Every year more and more family want to come. The facilities just keep getting better. The owners are relaxed and that make the whole environment a relaxed place. Great beach, town close for when you forget the 5 litres of tomatoe sauce you need for all those BBQs

We stayed at Opunake Beach Holiday Park for the past 2 nights and it was excellent. The owners were really friendly and welcoming. The campground is a quick walk to a cafe and to the local shops. The beach was a 1 minute walk from our tent. The area is well sheltered. Plenty to do if you have kids. The kitchen and bathroom amenties in excellent condition - I would say this twice to emphasise how good!!!! Will definitely be returning.
