Nelson is a vibrant, pleasant town, well positioned as a base for day trips to the Golden Bay and the national parks. It's one of the sunniest locations in New Zealand and is a very popular holiday destination for many Kiwis. Nearby suburbs Stoke and Richmond are worth visiting, with their own art galleries and many shops. Central Nelson also offers a variety of restaurants and shops, and a large information centre (with internet access).

Nelson City Holiday Park is located with easy access to central Nelson, approximately 20 minutes or so by foot. It's a small park, with 22 or so powered sites, several small units and several self contained units. All the cabins and facilities were rebuilt recently, and the park is modern and tidy. Internet access is provided, with coin operated machines as well as wireless.

The powered sites are generously sized and separated by hedges, and the facilities block is well located in the centre. The kitchen is smallish but is modern and clean, and the toilets and showers are excellent. One thing to note is that the tent sites would not be the best for extended stays. Tucked away at the back of the site, the tent area does not have separate sites, nor is there any car parking. Tenters would be best advised to look into the Tahuna Beach site to the north.

Since it's an urban site, there's always going to be some traffic noise. However I was positioned at the back of the site, and noticed very little noise overall. It's a lovely little site, well positioned, and a handy stay for making the most of the city. All manner of activites can be booked through the onsite office, and the staff are very helpful and friendly.
