Happy Camping Review

Kaiteriteri is a small resort town, 15km north of Motueka and near the Abel Tasman National Park. Its golden beach and quiet bay makes it an attractive destination for boating, sea kayaking, and chilling out on the beach. As such it is a popular destination during the Kiwi holidays.

It's a decent embarkation point for Abel Tasman trips, with a range of boat trips from $20 upwards, and offers some unique activities such as paddling a replica Maori canoe.

The Kaiteriteri Motor Camp is positioned right across the road from the beach, and the line of powered sites on that edge of the site have wonderful views across the bay. Even though it is positioned right beside the road, the traffic is minimal, and the presence of speed bumps just up the road ensure that there is very little disturbance.

The site is large, with 4 or so rows of powered sites nearest the road, along with many cabins at various price points. There are two large ablution blocks, complete with large, solid, modern kitchens and toilets/showers. The site has just undergone an extension, adding more state-of-the-art cabins that could be worth checking out when they are finished. The site has an average internet computer in the office, but if you're in the right spot you may be able to connect to the Internet Kiosk wireless from the hostel next door.

Kaiteriteri Motor Camp is the main place for camping in the Kaiteriteri area, and so can be very popular during the summer. It is worth booking in advance (you can do so from this site using the "Online Enquiries" link above) to ensure a place or a cabin. All in all, Kaiteriteri is a pleasant place to visit and can be a good base for lots of water-based and Abel Tasman activities. With a decent small shop, a couple of restaurants and some minigolf style activities, it's a pretty good destination.

Great but busy - Rachael
11th Jan, 2011

We have stayed here a couple of times. You can`t beat the location and facilities were pretty good. On the negative side, got a chilly bin (with beer) stolen from outside tent but our silly fault for leaving it unattended. Also it is very busy in summer, quite crowded compared to some other camping grounds we`ve been to. But overall recommend.

Kaiteriteri Beach - Paradise - Alan
7th Jul, 2009

The Motor Camp is an outstanding facility. The accomodation options range from camp sites to cabins and are well priced. The facilities are excellent with spacious sites, good clean toilet and shower blocks, well equiped kitchens, expansive grounds, and two very good playgorunds for the kids. It is very safe, and our 6 year olds had good independence around the grounds. The on site shop has a diverse range of goods, and nearby food options give you a choice for dining. Best of all, it`s right accross the beach from Kaiteriteri Beach which is absolutely gorgeous. Safe, beautiful golden sand, and plenty of areas to explores from rock pools to bush walks. A very highly recommended place to stay, in fact it was rated recently as no 1 in NZ in a poll for top camping ground/beach.

Kaiteriteri Beach Motorcamp - Tamar
26th Apr, 2008

Stayed in early April. Very nice and quiet. Staff are lovely and so friendly and helpful. We couldn`t believe how close we were to the beach. Perfect view from our tent. Very cheap to stay - $12 for a camp site I think. Very clean.
We LOVED Kaiteriteri. So beautiful.
There`s a fantastic coffee and cruise going for only $20 from Kaiteriteri beach to Split Apple Rock. About an hour and a half out on the water. The guide is Dave - he`s the loveliest guy ever. The cruise was the highlight of our holiday. His number is 0800 000 901.
