Situated a short drive north of Christchurch, Blue Skies can be found in the one-street town of Kaiapoi. With some basic shops, and an unremarkable riverside cafe / bar, Kaiapoi is distinguished only by it's particularly loud boy racers and well.. not much else.

The Blue Skies site is positioned on a quiet grassy park, with a large flat grassy area in the middle. It is beside an impressive playground  featuring climbing and abseiling walls. The main focus of the site is on the large pointy building that houses the dorms and very school-like dining area complete with dinner bell.

Blue Skies caters mainly for school and scout trips, and the camping side of the park is a little underwhelming. It mainly consists of several permanent-looking caravans (some of which are extremely funky), with a dozen or so powered sites and a small antique pay-BBQ with picnic table. The toilets are large, clean and basic, while the kitchen for campers is literally a broom cupboard. Better than nothing, but it may be worth digging out the gas cooker.

Overall the site is not particularly well suited to camper vans or camping. With reasonable if basic facilities, it's not bad, but considering a 15 minute drive would take you within reach of Christchurch Top 10 or Amber Park, I'd give it a miss.
