Ahipara Motor Camp

We camped there over Christmas new year and it has to be the noisiest camp sites Ive stayed at. Most nights the noise carried on till after 2am so we didn`t get a lot of sleep. The place appears to be run by visiting backpackers manning the reception with no one remotely interested in supervising drinking guests and rowdy parties. The toilet and shower facilities were clean but grossly inadequate for so many campers with only three showers for 100 of campers.

The Snapper Classic made it impossible to get into Ninety Mile beach Top 10 Holiday Park, so we had to look for another place to stay with our campervan and found Ahipara. The location is very quiet, has nice, grassy sites beneath tall trees and is a short walk to the beach. We booked a trip to Cape Reinga at the reception and the bus picked us up at the campground the following morning. Toilets and showers were few and rather dirty. The reception and "lounge" is dark and dusty and I actually don`t remember if they even had a campers` kitchen. All in all I would say it is ok to stay there, if you don`t expect too much and if you have a rather comfortable campervan with a toilet and kitchen like we did.

What a disappointment, dark reception, low lighting levels in communal lounge, tiny kitchen, could do with a good cleanup - everywhere, overgrown vegetation, cobwebs everywhere, poor lighting, toilets/showers were not cleaned in the two nights we stayed
